Marysville Drakes Edge Martinez Sturgeon 6-5

July 3 2024 The Marysville Drakes scored three times in the first inning and held on for a 6-5 victory over the Martinez Sturgeon at Bryant Field. Marysville finished with six runs and 11 hits, while Martinez scored five runs on eight hits. The Drakes improved to 29-25, while the Sturgeon fell to 20-34.

Marysville added two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth. Martinez answered with single runs in the second and fifth innings, scored twice in the seventh and added another run in the eighth, but could not complete the comeback. The Sturgeon had the tying run in reach late before Bryan Krolikowski closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Josh Leslie led the Drakes with two hits and a run, while Declan Peterson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Sam Hanson added a double and an RBI, and Bradley Thomas contributed a triple and scored a run. For Martinez, Erik Whitfield went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs, while Andrew Curran had one hit, one run and two RBI. Austin Micheli collected two hits and an RBI.

Kohl Petersen earned the win for Marysville after allowing two runs in 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking two. Krolikowski recorded the save with one scoreless inning and two strikeouts. Martinez starter Ryan Cormier allowed five runs in five innings, and Jesue Rivera was charged with the loss after surrendering one run in 1.1 innings.
