Marysville Drakes Defeat Martinez Sturgeon 6-3

July 2 2024 The Marysville Drakes defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 6-3 at Waterfront Park, using a three-run fourth inning and an insurance run in the eighth to secure the victory. Marysville finished with eight hits and one error, while Martinez collected seven hits and committed two errors.

Caleb Harmond and Joe Starick each had two hits for the Drakes. Harmond drove in a run and added a sacrifice fly, while Drake Ayala contributed two RBI. JD Leslie also had an RBI, and Earl Johnson delivered two RBI in a productive outing at the plate. Declan Peterson scored twice, and Chris Cook reached base three times with three walks.

Johnson earned the win after allowing one run on four hits in six innings, striking out six and walking two. Aj Cordova worked the first three innings for Marysville, allowing two earned runs, and Nick Antoni was credited with the save. Martinez starter Dillon Ponce took the loss after surrendering five earned runs on eight hits in seven innings, with four strikeouts and three walks.
