Martinez Sturgeon Outlast Marysville Drakes 15-10

June 21 2024 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Marysville Drakes 15-10 at Waterfront Park, scoring in each of the first five innings to build a 15-6 lead. Martinez collected 17 hits and took advantage of a four-run first inning, a three-run second, a four-run third, a three-run fourth and a one-run fifth. Marysville answered with five runs in the third and three in the sixth but could not complete the comeback. Erik Whitfield went 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI for Martinez, including a home run. Tony Riley added three hits, three runs and two RBI with a home run, while Jon Fargnoli and Caleb Natov each recorded two hits and three RBI. Andrew Curran scored twice and Jackson Kea had two hits and an RBI for the Sturgeon. Marysville was led by Jumpei Ohashi and Josh Leslie, who each drove in three runs. Leslie scored three times and hit a home run, while Joe Starick had two hits and scored twice. Chris Cook added an RBI double and two runs batted in. Harrison Aiken earned the win for Martinez after allowing nine runs eight earned on nine hits in six innings, with three walks and five strikeouts. Richie Garza followed with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out one. Marysville starter Jayden Drake took the loss after surrendering 14 runs on 13 hits in four innings, though only 14 of the runs were earned, with two walks and five strikeouts. Sam Hanson, Kohl Petersen and Tim Nichols combined to hold Martinez scoreless over the final five innings.
