Martinez Sturgeon Rally Past Marysville Drakes 8-5

July 4 2023 The Martinez Sturgeon scored three runs in the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie and defeat the Marysville Drakes 8-5. Martinez finished with 12 hits, while Marysville collected 10. The Sturgeon led 5-3 after seven innings before the Drakes pulled even with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and neither team scored in the eighth.

Sam Freedman powered Martinez with two hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Luke Johnson went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Cain Agis added two hits, two doubles and an RBI. Marysville’s Lyndon Weaver went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Erik Mitchell had two hits and two RBI for the Drakes.

Craig Broadman earned the win with a complete-game effort, allowing five runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts over nine innings. Evan Nakagawa took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. Mike Stellmack worked the final three innings for Marysville, surrendering five runs, four earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts.
