Martinez Sturgeon Outslug Marysville Drakes 11-8

June 17 2023 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Marysville Drakes 11-8 at Waterfront Park, overcoming an early deficit with four runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth. Martinez added two runs in the sixth to secure the victory after Marysville pulled within one run with a five-run fifth inning. The Sturgeon finished with 12 hits while the Drakes collected seven.

Dave Kyriacou powered Martinez with three hits, two home runs, three runs and six RBI. Tony Riley also delivered three hits and scored three times, while Sam Freedman added a hit and two RBI. Cain Agis had two hits and one RBI. For Marysville, Neil Boudreau went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs and five RBI, and Lyndon Weaver added a hit and an RBI.

Craig Broadman earned the win for Martinez after allowing seven hits and eight runs, seven earned, in six innings. He struck out six and walked three. Gabriel Rojas followed with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts, and Ishmael Muniz recorded the save with a scoreless ninth. Carson Stephens took the loss for Marysville after allowing four runs, three earned, in three innings.

Martinez led 9-3 after four innings before Marysville’s five-run fifth, highlighted by Boudreau’s production, cut the margin to 9-8. The Sturgeon answered with two runs in the sixth and held Marysville scoreless over the final four innings.
