Marysville Drakes Rally Past Martinez Sturgeon 11-10

June 10 2023 The Marysville Drakes overcame a 10-4 deficit with a seven-run eighth inning and defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 11-10. Marysville finished with 12 hits while Martinez recorded six. The Drakes improved to 27-23 and the Sturgeon moved to 25-24.

Martinez scored twice in the third inning, then added one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Sam Freedman hit a home run and drove in two runs, while Eric Whitfield, Cain Agis and Jackson Kea each collected one RBI. Kea also doubled, and Martinez stole five bases.

Marysville answered with single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings before breaking through in the eighth. Earl Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Evan Blum and Ergin Perovic each drove in two runs. Johnson, Perovic and Neil Boudreau each had two hits, and Marysville also received RBI from Lyndon Weaver, Tyler Carpenter, Calloway Miller and Connor Wytko.

Tim Nichols earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout, and Mike Stellmack recorded the save with a hitless ninth. Colt Powledge took the loss for Martinez after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Marysville starter Calloway Miller worked four innings, and Neil Boudreau struck out seven over three innings while allowing seven runs.
