Drakes Use Early Offense to Defeat Seaweed 12-6

May 27 2023 The Marysville Drakes defeated the Vallejo Seaweed 12-6 at Bryant Field. Marysville built an early advantage with five runs in the first inning and three more in the second before adding two runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Vallejo scored three times in the third, twice in the fourth and once in the fifth, but could not close the gap. The Drakes finished with nine hits while the Seaweed recorded five. Lyndon Weaver led Marysville with two hits, four RBI and two runs, including a home run and a double. Tyler Carpenter also collected two hits, scored twice and drove in one run, while Drake Ayala scored three runs and added an RBI. Joseph Starick and Erik Mitchell each doubled and drove in one run for the Drakes. Kyrin Coleman hit a home run for Vallejo and finished with one hit, two RBI and two runs. Braxton King and Caleb Natov each added a hit and an RBI for the Seaweed, who also stole three bases as a team. Rodrigo Sanchez earned the win for Marysville after allowing four hits and six runs over five innings, with only one run charged as earned. He struck out seven and walked four. Mike Stellmack followed with three scoreless innings and four strikeouts, and Tim Nichols completed the game with a scoreless ninth. Tavon Gibbs took the loss for Vallejo after surrendering eight runs on five hits in one inning.
